How important is having the right Medication Management System?

Blog Post – July 2013 Newsletter   Marnau Adaptive Products

We are privileged to live in a society that has seen great strides in medical care, and in particular, improvement and innovation in the field of pharmaceuticals. People are living longer, healthier lives. Medical problems and conditions can be controlled and even cured by the range of new, available medications on the market.

However, we cannot solely rely on health care providers to monitor our medication intake. We need to be proactive, taking charge of our personal medical situations. We need to be aware of potential drug side effects, and the possible negative effects of drug interactions.

Local pharmacists are well versed in the above, and are a wonderful source of information on all aspects of medication and our prescription orders always include informational handouts.  These handouts offer a wealth of information about the drug to be taken. These should be read and kept as a point of reference instead of being discarded in the recycling box.  Knowledge is power!

A great way to take a proactive step towards monitoring our own medication intake is with medication management products offered by Marnau Adaptive Products. These products, such as the E-Pill Pocket Electronic Pill Box or the Cadex 12 Alarm MedicationWatch, help remind us to take your medication on time with repeated alerts. They are easy to set up, easy to use and are designed for all ages.  These products are a simple and wonderful resource for people living and dealing with Parkinson’s, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Asthma and other illnesses that require a medication schedule.

Another way that we can be proactive and avoid negative medication issues is to be honest with our physicians. Possible alcohol overindulgence or dabbling in recreational drugs should be reported, as these may interfere with the positive effects of prescribed medication.

It has recently come to light that grapefruit, and possibly limes, Seville oranges and pomelos, can interact badly with over 50 different drugs. We need to clarify with our doctors and pharmacists if any of the medications that we are taking are on the list*.

Stay safe and healthy!
